Caring for Our Neighbours This Winter

As winter approaches on Vancouver Island, the Manna Homeless Society continues to bring practical change and compassionate care to Parksville, Qualicum Beach, and Errington. For more than two decades, this grassroots team has met people where they are—offering dignity, health support, and basic needs to those living without stable housing.

Each week, Manna’s three vehicles and professional team of nurses, foot-care specialists, and volunteers provide free services across the Oceanside area, which include:

  • Saturdays, 10 a.m.–noon at Saint Edmund’s Church in Parksville, where all three vehicles offer a full range of care

  • Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m.–noon at ORCA Place for foot care and health checks

  • Thursdays, 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. at Saint Stephen’s in Qualicum Beach, providing professional foot care, wellness checks, and additional support

  • Outreach also takes place in Smithers Park, Errington, and other community locations

A new food-distribution program now operates across Parksville, Qualicum, and Errington, helping neighbours stretch limited resources. When motorhomes and trailers become available, Manna places them with people who need shelter, easing pressure on the streets and giving individuals a safer place to sleep as temperatures drop.

These efforts matter. They reduce suffering, prevent health crises, and show that the community has not forgotten its most vulnerable residents. Manna’s work is not a substitute for housing solutions, but it is a steady, local response that brings real relief week after week.
